I chose 223 cause its easy on the recoil and my wallet plus rite now its abundant round here anyway.I have a mossberg rifle from recent production and I am less than impressed. I have both ruger's and savage's, model 77's and model 16's not the axis or american. I would skip the axis and look at the axis 2 vs ruger american. The Axis just feels flimsier and the bolt does takes some serious effort to open when it's new. The savage is pretty good rifle, easy to upgrade and normally quite accurate out of the box. The Howa is a very nice rifle with a superior action, superior bolt and, some think, a superior trigger. And the newer American's have some mag compatibility with existing platforms, depending on caliber. The lower price point of the Savage looked nice, but the magazines do look cheap AF. The Ruger would use AR style mags in .300 BLK so that would be more betterer. .
